2017 Steel Dust Award
Marlin Rotach was awarded the 2017 Steel Dust Award during the opening of this year’s America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.

Marlin Rotach of Salina, Kansas, won the prestigious Steel Dust Award at the opening of the 10th annual America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale on August 12 at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo.
Rotach is a lifelong artist who graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s of fine arts in painting. He went on to complete his master’s degree in fine arts at the University of Nebraska before teaching design, drawing and painting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Since the mid-1990s, Rotach has worked almost exclusively in watercolors and has received many accolades and awards for his work. His work has been featured in numerous juried national aqua-media shows and his painting are highly coveted and collected.
The Steel Dust Award, generously sponsored by Bruce Carter of Bruce Carter Performance Horses, was introduced to recognize one artist each year for their work. Selected by a panel of judges, the award is based on the artistic merit of the entire body of work submitted to the show. The winner receives $1,000 and a commemorative plaque.
About America’s Horse in Art America’s Horse in Art returned to the Museum on August 12. This year’s show highlights pieces from more than 40 world-renowned Western artists. The art ranges from pencil drawings to sculptures. All remaining pieces not sold on opening night are offered for a sale on a first-come, first-served basis. Art sales are available online, by telephone at 806-376-5181 and by email at email@example.com. The purchased artwork will remain on exhibit until the show closes on October 14. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of art go to the Hall of Fame to support its efforts to preserve the history of the American Quarter Horse.
