Looking to the Future

Young Horse Development program teaches the fundamentals.

AQHA's Young Horse Development Program showcases AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders’ ranch-bred American Quarter Horses and provides an opportunity for youth to become engaged in the horse industry at a fundamental level that’s fun and educational.

American Quarter Horse Youth Association members aged 12 to 18-years-old have the opportunity to participate in hands-on horse training that teaches the fundamentals of horsemanship. Program participants showcase their skills and knowledge learned from daily care and training of their horse, attend events, and benefit from interaction with breeders and AQHA Professional Horsemen. Program participants are rewarded with scholarships and prizes from Montana Silversmiths, Justin Boots and Wrangler. Plus they keep their horse!

Thanks to the generosity of AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders, selected AQHYA members receive a free weanling for this project. To be eligible to receive a free weanling, youth applicants must submit their applications by August 15.
